Student Rights & Responsibilities, and Student Conduct

As a student at Napa Valley College, you have many rights and many responsibilities provided by our college policies. These policies protect you and the college, and failure to adhere to these can result in academic consequences. Be informed.

STUDENT CONDUCT

The Dean of Student Affairs, Robin Darcangelo, oversees student discipline. NVC faculty, staff, and administrators can report a student violation of the Standards of Student Conduct, "Code of Conduct" by submitting an incident report below.

Board Policy 5500 - Standards of Student Conduct(click on the Policies tab on the upper right-hand corner and select Board Policies

The Superintendent/President shall establish procedures for the imposition of discipline on students in accordance with the requirements for due process of the federal and state law and regulations.

The procedures shall clearly define the conduct that is subject to discipline, and shall identify potential disciplinary actions, including but not limited to the removal, suspension, or expulsion of a student.

The Board of Trustees shall consider any recommendation from the Superintendent/President for expulsion.  The Board shall consider an expulsion recommendation in closed session unless the student requests that the matter be considered in a public meeting.  Final action by the Board on the expulsion shall be taken at a public meeting.

The procedures shall be made widely available to students through the college catalog and other means.

Administrative Procedures (AP)

AP 5500 provides a list of the types of conduct that could be good cause for discipline. Students shall be expected to obey all local, state, and federal laws and such campus regulations as prescribed for the effective operation of Napa Valley College.

AP 5520 provides uniform procedures to assure due process when a student (a) is charged with a violation of these standards, or (b) wishes to resolve specific concerns in an expeditious and fair manner. All proceedings held in accordance with these procedures shall relate specifically to an alleged violation of the established Standards of Student Conduct.

AP 5530 provide a prompt and equitable means of resolving student grievances. These procedures shall be available to any student who reasonably believes a college decision or action has adversely affected his/her status, rights, or privileges as a student.

 

Board Policy 5505 - Academic Honesty (S6330)- BP 5505 defines what is academic honesty, what constitutes academic dishonesty and lists the consequences of academic dishonesty.
