Due to many travelers having questions about completing the ETA application, please refer to the attached step by step guide that outlines each portion of the application and where to input the information. *Please note that Collette is unable to offer any technical support with the application. There is additional information for assistance at the bottom of the visual guide*
Starting 8th January 2025, all American, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand passport holders will require an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) if visiting the UK. The online application portal will begin accepting applications on 27th November 2024. The UK ETA will be required for any travel starting on 8th January 2025 and beyond.
The UK ETA initiative is for visitors from non-visa countries for short stays. It will be required for visits up to 6 months for tourism.
A UK ETA costs £10 per person, and will be required for all travelers in your party including infants and children. If traveling within a group, each person must apply separately.
Once you have a valid UK ETA associated with your passport, it will be valid for multiple journeys to the region and is valid for two years or until the associated passport expires – whichever occurs first.
You will be able to apply online at the UK Government website: https://apply-for-an-eta.homeoffice.gov.uk/apply/electronic-travel-authorisation/how-to-apply
You will also be able to apply through the UK ETA App:

You should follow the application step-by-step in the online prompts. Please note you will be required to upload a photo of your passport with the application, as well as an additional photo of yourself. If completing on a computer, you will have to upload the photos to the website. If using the app, you can take photos using the camera on your smartphone.
Once you submit your application, it will take an average of 3 business days to receive an email confirmation that your application has been approved, and the valid UK ETA is now linked to your passport. Please note it may take longer than 3 business days.
If you applied on the same day as others in your travel party, please note that you may receive your confirmation emails at different times.
PLEASE BE ADVISED!!!
The below information regarding flights is a temporary change as of January 20, 2025, and we recommend visiting the official UK government website for the most up-to-date information: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta
If you are transiting through ANY UK airport and will not pass through UK border control, you no longer need an ETA. However, please ensure you bring evidence of your onward journey, such as a ticket to your next destination.
You will need to pass through UK border control if:
- You leave the main airport building for any reason.
- You need to collect your bags and check them in for your onward flight.
- Your onward flight leaves on a different calendar day from when you arrive.
- There is nowhere for you to stay overnight in the airport, such as a transit hotel.
Other Helpful Information
Others can submit applications on your behalf if you need assistance.
You must apply for an ETA before you travel to the UK, however you can travel to the UK while your application is pending.
Your UK ETA lasts for 2 years or until the associated passport expires. You can travel to the UK as many times as you want during that time. You do not need to apply for another UK ETA each time you plan to travel or transit through the UK.
If you get a new passport, you’ll need to get a new ETA. You will need to go through the application process again with your new passport.
If the UK is your final destination, you will still need to follow normal Border Control procedures as determined by the airport, including speaking to a Border Control Officer and having your passport stamped or making use of passport e-Gates when available. A UK ETA does not excuse you from this procedure. Always remember to follow the instructions of all border control officers throughout the airport.
A valid UK ETA does not guarantee entry into the United Kingdom. UK Border Agency has the right to decline any passenger’s entry to the UK even when passenger has an ETA for various political or criminal reasons.
Passport Requirements
Passports must be valid for the duration of your stay in the United Kingdom. You must have at least 1 blank page remaining in your passport to allow for the entry stamp.
Required passport pages do not include those reserved for amendments and endorsements at the back of your passport.
We recommend bringing a copy of your passport and keeping it in a separate location from your original passport, in the event the original is misplaced and you need your passport information.
Above rates are approximate and can be changed at any time based on governing authority. Collette is not responsible for price increases or additional fees associated with the current visa process.
IMPORTANT: ETA is required for all persons traveling to the United Kingdom
