The Administration of Justice Department offers a variety of certificate programs focused on specific areas of study within the American justice system. Certificates of Achievement like the ones below enhance a resume and make you more competitive in a hiring process. We encourage you to apply for as many certificates as you are eligible to receive.

Law Enforcement – Community Policing – 15 units

Required Courses (6 units):

ADMJ-120 Introduction to the Administration of Justice - 3 units

ADMJ-123 Introduction to Community Policing - 3 units

Elective Courses (9 units):

LGBT-120 Introduction to LGBT Studies – 3 units

ETHS-112 Introduction to Africana Studies – 3 units

ETHS-113 Introduction to Mex-American and Chicana(o) Studies – 3 units

ETHS-160 Filipina(o)-American Heritage – 3 units

This certificate is ideal for students pursuing a career in any field within the criminal justice system. Cultural competence is essential for everyone working in the justice field. Courses required for this certificate meet multiple graduation requirements at Napa Valley College and as the CSU and UC systems.

Law Enforcement – Mental Health & Addiction – 15 units

HSRV-120 Introduction to Human Services – 3 units

This certificate is ideal for students pursuing a career in the justice system as well as those who are interested in working with the unhoused population, drug addiction, and those suffering from mental health related illnesses. 

Law Enforcement – Juvenile Justice – 18 units

This certificate is intended for students interested in youth within the criminal justice system.  It is ideal for students pursuing a career as a juvenile probation officer or juvenile corrections officer.

9-1-1 Dispatcher Certificate - 15 units (Revised Fall 2022)

Required Courses (15 units):

CJT 296 Public Safety Dispatchers Basic Course – 3 units

ADMJ 120 Introduction to the Administration of Justice – 3 units

ADMJ 121 Introduction to Criminal Law – 3 units

ADMJ 122 Introduction to Criminal Procedures – 3 units

ADMJ 123 Introduction to Community Policing – 3 units

This certificate is perfect for students pursuing a career as a 9-1-1 dispatcher with a public safety agency. The program includes completion of the required California P.O.S.T. certified dispatcher academy. Students completing this course at another college can transfer the course to Napa Valley College and apply the units toward this certificate.

This certificate is ideal for students pursuing a career in law enforcement or corrections. It provides a well rounded education on the various components of the criminal justice system. These classes are also required for the two-year Administraiton of Justice degree.
