Huzaifa Kamran Khawaja

Twenty-two-year-old Huzaifa Kamran Khawaja has been in the United States for less than three years but has made quite a mark in a short time. In 2017, his father, a retired Pakistani Air Force logistics officer and his mother, a homemaker, immigrated with the family from Pakistan, when Huzaifa was in the midst of completing his A-levels, roughly equivalent to a college-prep high school in the United States.

Even as COVID-19 and the stay-at-home orders necessitated great changes this spring, including closing the campus and canceling or postponing of classes and events, NVC students and staff continued to innovate and learn.

EOPS and CalWORKs Drive-Thru Graduation

Napa Valley College EOPS and CalWORKs hosted a drive-thru graduation celebration on May 27. Graduates who participated – 28 of the 50 students graduating this year – received a NVC cap and gown, medallion, certificate of completion, snacks, and a congratulation card signed by EOPS staff. During the drive-thru, students and their families were greeted and cheered by EOPS and financial aid staff, who work with about 300 students each year.

María Villagómez Appointed to ACCCA Board

Congratulations to María Villagómez, senior dean, language arts, library and social sciences who was appointed to a three-year term to represent Napa Valley College on the Association of California Community College Administrators (ACCCA) board of directors.
