Study Abroad
The purpose of the Study Abroad program is to encourage the development of intercultural and international understanding. The course offerings promote travel study classes throughout the world that will encourage students to experience living abroad, helping them appreciate global issues through the lens of another culture or language and to develop a deeper understanding of the world around them, their country, and themselves.
Spanish in Costa Rica: June 25 - July 18, 2026
Join Napa Valley College Spanish Professor Nicole Carrier nicole.carrier@napavalley.edu, for NVC's annual Spanish Immersion Program in Costa Rica this summer.
Spend three unforgettable weeks living with a welcoming host family in the charming
hillside town of Coronado, San José
Each morning from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., you’ll take part in engaging Spanish language
classes, giving you plenty of free time in the afternoons to explore and experience
local life.
Your host family will prepare three meals a day (if you wish), offering an authentic
taste of Costa Rican culture and cuisine.
The program also features a variety of cultural excursions and activities, including
a trip to Arenal Volcano, a cooking class, a dance lesson, a cloud forest visit, a
cacao farm tour, a waterfall adventure, and more!

SOCI-122 Social Problems in the Netherlands
Join Napa Valley College Sociology Professor Naomi Chianese, naomi.chianese@napavalley.edu
for an immersive exploration of social issues in one of the most progressive countries
in the world: the Netherlands.
Spend three transformative weeks based in Amsterdam, studying topics such as social justice, gender equality, immigration, and sustainability through engaging lectures, guest speakers, and cultural excursions.
Experience Dutch life firsthand as you interview local students, tour landmarks like the Anne Frank House, Peace Palace, and Jewish Quarter, and enjoy vibrant neighborhoods such as De Pijp and The Hague.
Along the way, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how culture and policy shape communities, while savoring Dutch cuisine, cruising Amsterdam’s famous canals, and even trekking the mudflats of Pieterburen’s Wadden Sea.
