Shakespeare Napa Valley partners with di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art to present Shakespeare Summer Stroll

Shakespeare Napa Valley at Napa Valley College and di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art present
Shakespeare Summer Stroll, a site-integrated presentation of scenes and monologues from some of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays, interwoven with the exquisite works and outdoor spaces at di Rosa. This family-friendly show boasts a fantastic balance of comedic and dramatic scenes as well as sonnets, and is directed by Napa Valley College faculty member Olivia Cowell.

Shakespeare Napa Valley at Napa Valley College has conceptualized an incredible walking tour through the world of Shakespeare and some of his greatest dramatic works. Guests will experience a short and enchanting hike through a carefully curated sequence of moments from The Tempest, Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, Macbeth, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Throughout the performance, select scenes will be paired with wine and light snacks.

Jennifer King, artistic director of Shakespeare Napa Valley and Arts and Humanities faculty chair at Napa Valley College, describes the event as “likely the first live theatrical performance the Napa Valley has seen since the start of the pandemic.” By combining captivating performances with contemporary art and the scenic outdoors, the show provides a unique and interactive experience for all audiences.

Andrea Saenz Williams, director of education & civic engagement at di Rosa notes that “this interdisciplinary collaboration exemplifies an integral part of our organization’s mission, which is to engage the community in the connective power of art and nature. I can’t think of a better way to do that than to see di Rosa’s campus and outdoor collection come alive on a summer evening through theatrical performances.”

Opening night on Thursday, July 15, will feature wine and food pairings alongside a variety of scenes, and will also include a reception and toast with the actors after their respective performances. Thursday’s unique pairing and performance experience will be ticketed as a VIP donor event, for those making a $65+ donation. The subsequent evening performances on Friday, July 16 and Saturday, July 17, will require a minimum “donation” of $5 in order to receive admission to the event. Those who donate $30+ will receive a complimentary glass of wine and light snack during Friday and Saturday’s performances. All donations will be distributed amongst Shakespeare Napa Valley and di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday’s performances will take place from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The final show, a matinee on Sunday, July 18 at 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., will be free to anyone with admission to the di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art, all di Rosa members, and Napa Valley College students (with ID). The matinee will not include food or wine pairings.
