NVC Dean of Disability Support Programs and Services Retires

After 18 years of counseling, supporting, interpreting, teaching, leading, advocating and yes, dancing, Sheryl Fernandez, NVC’s Dean of Disability Support Programs and Services (DSPS), will officially retire on December 30, 2020, marking the end of a four-decade career serving people with disabilities via her passion for mental health and counseling.

From High School Dropout to NVC Instructor

There are no “typical” students at Napa Valley College. There are, however, thousands of stories of how people, circumstances, resources such as the Napa Valley College Foundation, and individual motivation come together to create beautiful, inspirational stories of determination and aptitude. This is one of those stories.

Celebrating Our Newly-Tenured Faculty

At the September 10, 2020 Board of Trustees meeting, the Board honored six faculty members who successfully completed their evaluation in spring 2020 and have achieved tenured status as of fall 2020. Bob Van Der Velde, Senior Dean, Arts & Sciences; Bob Harris, Senior Dean, Health & Safety; Howard Willis, Senior Dean, Counseling Services and Student Success; and Charlie Monahan, Associate Dean, Economic and Workforce Development introduced the faculty. Congratulations to Dr. Josh Hanson, Stan Hitchcock, Molly Hodgins, Katie Ratliff, Andrea Ruybal and Hope Scott.

Napa Valley College Celebrates National #HSIWeek!

As a federally-designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), Napa Valley College is proud to celebrate our students’ achievements and honored to help them reach and exceed their goals. More than 45 percent of the college’s student population identifies as Hispanic/Latinx, and nearly 47 percent are the first in their family to attend college. In our 12th year as an HSI, we are excited to celebrate our students, faculty, staff and alumni.

NVC Women’s Basketball Receives Four Additional Player Commitments

Napa Valley College head women’s basketball coach Paul DeBolt announced that Hannah Newman and Cali Olmstead of Napa High School and Deyari Babb and Indya Luckett of Vallejo High have committed to play for the Storm.
