MESA/STEM Center Administrative Assistant
Cynthia earned an A. S in Natural Science & Mathematics from Napa Valley College (NVC) and a B. S in Kinesiology from San Jose State University. Recently, Cynthia worked at John F. Kennedy University as an Administrative Compliance Coordinator for the Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) grant's Undergraduate Success Center and was promoted to Academic Counselor to support undergraduate programs. Previously, she worked at Napa Valley College for the HSI STEM grant as Program Assistant and Secretary II through the end of her assignment. Her passion is to support student success just like the wonderful support she received from the Student Support Services (SSS) TRIO program when she was a student here at Napa Valley College. On her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, one year old son and family. She is happy to have the opportunity to once again be part of the NVC team!
MESA/STEM Center Student Affairs Specialist
Rene has been working with the MESA Program, since 2002, as a MESA/STEM Program Advisor/Student Affairs Specialist. Rene Rubio has been assisting the MESA program in supporting NVC students to successfully transfer to four-year institutions in STEM majors. He enjoys advising and supporting NVC’s STEM National Chapters and clubs; SHPE, SACNAS, the Robotics, the Discovery, the Dreamers of Community Change (DOOC) premed, and Women in STEM Empowerment (WISE) clubs. With sixteen years of experience in the field of education, he has contributed to successful grant proposals funded and completed which include Special Projects MESA Grant since 2002, Hewlett-Packard Community College Pre Engineering/Computer Science Grant Award, the US Department of Transportation’s, Dwight David Eisenhower Fellowship Program since 2009, Napa Valley College Hispanic Serving Institution STEM Grant from 2011-2016, and coordinator of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Scholars Program. He will continue to oversee the STEM tutorial program. Rene is bilingual in English and Spanish.
MESA/STEM Center Counselor & Instructor
Patricia earned a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocational Education/Technology and Workforce Development from Sacramento State University, and an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Chabot College. Patricia worked at Peralta College District as an Adelante Learning Communities Counselor/Coordinator and Instructor from 2009 to 2013 and Chabot College as an Articulation Specialist/HSI Project Coordinator from 1996 to 2013. Her additional work experience includes Mental Health Clinical Specialist for Contra Costa West County Detention Facility for Women from 2013 to 2014; and Marriage Family Therapist for Alameda County Sheriff's Ashland Youth Center and Youth and Family Services from 2012-2013. Patricia is a Registered Marriage Family Therapist Intern. In her spare time, Patricia enjoys spending time with her 8-yr old grandson and watching him play baseball and flag football.

Napa Valley College alumnus who was part of
the EOPS, SSS TRIO, DSPS and MESA Programs. Luis then transferred to UC
Berkeley to earn a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and in 2015 obtained a M.S.
in Engineering Management from California State University, Eastbay.
has worked in MESA Programs as a manager and mentor with middle and high school
students at Washington State Yakima Valley and Tri-Cities area and at CSU East
Bay and has worked with community college and university MESA students at
Washington State Columbia Basin College and at CSU Eastbay.

affiliations such as Engineers without Borders of San Francisco, Puente
Program Mentor at Hayward High School and Ohlone College, and President of MESA
Club at Napa Valley College.
