LGBT Education Certificate For Health Occupations
These two 9-unit certificate programs support students pursuing careers in child development and education and a wide variety of health occupations including nursing, respiratory therapy, psychiatric technician, EMT and paramedics.
LGBT Education For Educators Program
This certificate supports public and private educators, counselors, administrators and staff. It provides training required by the Safe and Supportive School Act (AB493) passed in October of 2019. It is also supports the education of teachers and prepares them to deliver instruction required by the Fair and Inclusive Education Act that requires LGBTQ related topics for 2nd, 4th, 5th, 8th, and 11th grade students. This certificate of achievement is part of the pathway to the LGBT Studies Certificate and LGBT Education Degree Program. This program supports the Napa Valley College Child, Family and Education Studies programs.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Explain the difference between sexual orientation and gender identity and define the terms people use to identify their sexual orientation and gender identity.
2. Discuss the challenges non-gender conforming persons face in the community, family and workforce including education.

LGBT Education For Health Occupations Program
This certificate supports the training required for health care providers under Title 22, section 72517(e) of the California Code of Regulations. It supports California's 1.1 million health care workers by providing a deeper understanding of LGBTQ people and issues facing the community including HIV/AIDS. This certificate is a pathway toward completion of the LGBT Studies Certificate and LGBT Education Degree Program. It supports the existing Napa Valley College Health Occupations Programs.

Courses are offered during the fall, spring and summer semesters in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats. Students can enter the program at the start of any semester. There are no pre-requisites. For a schedule of classes, please refer to the current Napa Valley College schedule of classes.
