Creating a Scholarship
A scholarship can be established in three ways. In 2019, the Board of Directors of the NVCF voted to increase the size of new endowment and scholarship funds and to encourage a minimum of $1,000 per award, due to increased costs to our students for tuition, books and housing.
A scholarship fund may be established with the same requirements as an endowed fund, but may be established without legal representation.
American Association of University Women, Napa Branch Scholarship
AAUW promotes equity for all women and girls, lifelong education, and positive societal change. The Napa branch offers an annual scholarship to a local woman graduating from Napa Valley College and continuing her education at a four-year college or university.
Associated Students of NVC
The Associated Students of NVC represents students on campus. Officers are elected by the student body. The ASNVC advocates for the rights of students, promotes activities which stimulate the intellectual, cultural, and social life of our college, and encourages a high standard of education and freedom of expression.
A Voice Found, Inc. (AVF)
A Voice Found, Inc. (AVF) is a local nonprofit career counseling and scholarship service established in 2005 to meet the needs of teenagers and young adults who have obstacles to education, training and employment by helping them to create their own visions for the future. AVF’s scholarship program provides opportunities for local students pursuing vocational career education and training in a number of different career categories. The AVF scholarships are named after everyday heroes who exemplify the best of their professions while serving their communities, overcoming obstacles, and mentoring young people.
B/M/M (Burditt-McDonald-McKee) Awards
This scholarship is in memory of Margaret Marie McDonald Burditt and Harold Marion McKee, parents of Dr. Chris Burditt. Recipients are outstanding students from Dr. Burditt’s mathematics courses during the past year.
Community Projects Scholarship
Since its inception in 1941, Community Projects, Inc. has provided monetary support for many public Napa County entities. The Thrift Shop at Third and Franklin Streets in Napa is the chief source of funds. We are grateful to be a part of this giving community. The awards this year are named in memory of Donna Long and Florence Hancock.
Concierge Alliance of Napa Valley and Sonoma (CANVAS) Excellence in Hospitality Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a continuing student in the NVC Hospitality Program who has demonstrated commitment to pursuing a career in hospitality.
Gregory W. Cook Memorial
Dedicated to the memory of Gregory W. Cook, this scholarship is given by his family in hopes that deserving students may pursue their dreams.
Early Ford V-8 Club of America Redwood Empire Regional Group #27
This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student in the welding program.
Excellence in Mathematics Award
This scholarship is designated to help students who show promise and aptitude in mathematics and who demonstrates an interest in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) major. Academic achievement and financial need are part of the criteria for this award. However, students showing promise and interest in a math-related field are prime candidates. This scholarship is a community service ministry of Valley Community Church.
Jeri Glover Scholarship
Jeri attended the Hill and Valley Teen Parent Program. She used her experience as a pregnant teen to improve her life and be of service to countless women during childbirth. She was a victim of domestic terrorism and this scholarship is in her memory.
Lina Gonzalez Memorial Scholarship
Lina Gonzalez immigrated from Portugal at a young age and quickly learned to value education. She worked for the NVUSD for over 20 years helping children and assisting teachers while making many friends along the way. Shortly before her passing she developed a passion for nursing while working at a pediatrician’s office. Her family and friends would like to award this scholarship in her memory to students who are interested in pursuing a career in an education or medical field.
“If Given a Chance” Scholarship
A number of years ago the Napa Valley came together to provide support and incentive for the most challenged young people of Napa County. “If Given a Chance…” has honored many students who have faced abuse, neglect, and many other life challenges.
The Kiwanis Club is an international organization dedicated to youth, their education, drug prevention, and to those activities that assist in the positive development of our future leaders. In the Napa Valley, the Kiwanis Club is an active supporter of virtually every major youth organization.

This scholarship is awarded to a student with leadership abilities active in community service.
Kiwanis Club In memory of Norman deLeuze and ZD Wines
This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student in the NVC Viticulture & Winery Technology Program who exhibits leadership skills and is active in the community.
Mathematics and Statistics Career
This scholarship supports the further education of a student pursuing a career in mathematics or statistics. This award is provided by the NVC Mathematics Department.
Napa Chamber, Napa Valley Community Awards Outstanding Napa Valley College Student
Awarded to a student who perseveres against all odds; they transform a place into a true community.
Napa County Hispanic Network
The Hispanic Network provides scholarships for the Hispanic youth of Napa County. The Hispanic Network assists continuing or transferring students so they can further their education and achieve their goals, as these students are the future leaders of the Hispanic community.
Napa Engineers’ Society
The purpose of the Napa Engineers’ Society is to provide a forum for discussing public works projects in Napa County and to foster friendship among the various agencies responsible for the planning and completion of these projects.
Napa Engineers’ Society Raymond Shour Memorial
Raymond Shour is remembered as a Registered Civil Engineer, retired from CalTrans, & member of the Napa Engineers’ Society for over 30 years. He was active as a dominant member of their Scholarship Committee, most of the time as Chair. This scholarship honors Raymond’s contribution to the profession and to the Society, especially his outreach into the community and the students at NVC.
Napa Engineers' Society American Council of Engineering Companies, Napa-Solano Chapter
This award is for a deserving transfer student.
Napa Solano Psychological Association (NSPA)
NSPA seeks to promote human welfare in the community through the dispersion and utilization of psychological knowledge and services. Our aim is to increase public understanding of the unique contribution of psychology as a science of human behavior and as a profession, and to promote and maintain high standards of professional ethics, conduct, education, training, and achievement as defined by the APA, CPA and the Board of Professional Psychology. This scholarship is awarded to a student studying any area of mental health.
Napa Valley Art Association Scholarship
The Napa Valley Art Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering and encouraging creative art, its understanding and appreciation. We provide the arts community with education and exhibition opportunities and in turn depend on the community for support of local artists. A portion of all revenues is retained for scholarships to students in the Napa Valley.
NVC Academic Senate Scholarship
The Academic Senate is charged by the state with responsibility for academic and professional matters; these include curriculum, educational program development, degree and certificate requirements, and - most important - standards and policies regarding student preparation and success. This scholarship is funded by NVC faculty and awarded to a student who demonstrates academic excellence.
NVC Academic Senate Scholarship Honoring Retired Faculty
The Academic Senate awards a second scholarship as a tribute to the distinguished faculty who served our students since the advent of NVC over 60 years ago. We honor our retired colleagues by funding the Academic Senate Emeriti Scholarship and presenting it to an outstanding NVC student.
NVC Administrative Senate
The NVC Administrative Senate, as part of its commitment to student success, began this scholarship in 1996. The scholarship provides support to students who are continuing their education at NVC.
NVC Association of Classified Professionals Scholarship
The NVC-ACP, affiliated with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 1021, consists of paraprofessional and professional staff supporting the day-to-day operation and mission of NVC.
NVC Classified Senate Scholarship
The NVC Classified Senate, as part of its commitment to support the continuing education of classified employees and their families, began this scholarship in 2002. The scholarship provides support for tuition, books and living expenses. The organization is affiliated with the California Community College Classified Senate (4CS).
NVC Faculty Association Scholarship
The NVC Faculty Association is the local chapter of the California Teachers Association. These scholarships are funded through union dues to help support and honor deserving NVC students.
NVC Instrumental Music Scholarship Competition Award
This scholarship is awarded to a deserving music student.
NVC Police Academy Top Overall Student in Memory of Bruce Beckler Scholarship
This scholarship is in memory and appreciation of 15 years of dedicated service to NVC and the Criminal Justice Training Center. Bruce Beckler’s attention to detail and his indefatigable efforts on the behalf of students will never be forgotten.
NVC Puente Program and Club in memory of Miriam Sanchez
Miriam Sanchez, 20, died at Stanford Medical Center July 20, 2013 after a courageous battle with life-long medical issues. Miriam was a brave, strong person with high spirits. She was a "get going" type of person who had big goals in life and fought to live until her final breath. She loved to sing and dance. She attended Napa Valley College where she was part of the Puente Program. This scholarship is awarded to a deserving NVC student who has actively participated in the NVC Puente Program and Club.
NVG Farmworker Foundation – Trefethen Family Vineyards Scholarship
The Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG) Farmworker Foundation was established in 2010 to support and enrich the lives of Napa County vineyard workers and their families by providing educational opportunities, advanced training programs, and promoting a safe and healthy work environment.
The NVG Farmworker Foundation – Trefethen Family Vineyards Scholarship award is for Napa County farmworkers or the children of Napa County farmworkers who have completed their Associate’s Degree and would like to transfer to a 4 year accredited college or university to study viticulture.
Napa Women's Club
The Napa Women's Club is one of Napa's oldest women's service organizations dedicated to local community improvement. Through volunteers a scholarship is awarded to a deserving nursing student. Our club sponsors several fundraising events throughout the year to give a nursing student an opportunity to further their education.
National League of American Pen Women
The Bernice Dunn and Zelma Stevens Scholarship – honoring Bernice Dunn, who was a noted Napa journalist and author, and Zelma Stevens, who is a celebrated local artist and whose efforts founded this scholarship – is given by the Napa Valley Branch of the National League of American Pen Women. The scholarship was founded to encourage students who are graduating from NVC and continuing their education in the creative arts.
Orange County Wine Society
The Orange County Wine Society was founded in 1976 with the purpose of promoting the knowledge of winemaking, viticulture and wine appreciation. Co-sponsor of the Orange County Fair Commercial Wine Competition and conduct the Fair’s Home Wine Competition, the Wine Society’s members produce several large scale “wine-tastings”, conduct educational seminars and winemaking programs, and provide monthly functions and events for their membership. This scholarship is awarded to deserving students in winemaking, viticulture, wine appreciation and culinary arts.
June Pollock Scholarship
This scholarship honors June Pollock who was a founding member of Napa Humane Society. With a strong personal love for animals, she volunteered her time for thirty years.
Sudie Pollock Scholarship
This scholarship honors 30 years teaching at the Hill and Valley Teen Parent Program.
Lillian Spiegel Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student and is dedicated to the memory of Lillian Spiegel, who was the first in her family to graduate from a university. Lillian was devoted to supporting those pursuing higher education.
An endowed scholarship managed by the NVC Foundation provides support to NVC students each year. New NVC Foundation scholarship endowments start at $10,000 and share in the foundation’s investment earnings. The principal of an endowed fund may be added to, but never reduced or spent. Thus, additions to existing or new endowments assure a scholarship award each year. Scholarship contribution form.
Mary K. Adams Drama Award
Mary K. Adams, actor, writer, singer, costumer, director, teacher and producer has worked on and off stage at NVC, contributing significantly to the theater program for more than 20 years. This award honors students who best exemplify her excellence and commitment to the NVC theater program.
Gertrudis C. Agcaoili Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a continuing, worthy and deserving Filipino nursing student at NVC and is awarded annually.
Donna Altes Scholarship
This award is for a teaching candidate who passionately wants to teach children and who has a fire in their heart to serve the future leaders of our nation.
Arts Council of Napa Valley
The mission of ACNV is to support a thriving and diverse creative community by expanding arts education, collaborating with arts organizations, and nurturing the development of artistic talent. This scholarship is given to a deserving art student from the Council’s Visual and Performing Arts scholarship fund.
Francesca Aragon Azevedo Poetry Award
While Francesca Aragon Azevedo was always a talented singer and artist, it was not until the age of 50 that she realized she had a special talent for writing poetry. Soon thereafter, she became a prolific writer and recipient of numerous awards both locally and nationally. “Putting words into poetry is like giving a stray a new home,” she would say. This award is made to a deserving student showing promise in poetry writing.
Norman Badion Memorial Art Scholarship
This scholarship is given in memory of Norman Badion to any student who wants to pursue the study of art or art history.
Antonio J. Baldini Family Scholarship
This scholarship is to provide an award to a deserving student majoring in either Business or Viticulture and Winery Technology.
Carl A. & Alice Benscoter Memorial
The children of Carl and Alice Benscoter are pleased to support the education of deserving Respiratory Therapy students in the memory of their parents.
Mary K. and Wm. L. Blanckenburg Family Scholarship
Mary K. Blanckenburg came from a family of educators and Bill’s family has always been a strong supporter of education. Bill was the founding board president of NVC Foundation. Both have had a lifelong interest in NVC and U.C. Berkeley. This scholarship is awarded to students at NVC who plan to transfer to a U.C. Campus, with a strong preference given the Berkeley campus.
Kathy Bollinger Elementary Teacher Scholarsip
This scholarship is a tribute to an outstanding and passionate teacher. With the same vigor Kathy taught academics, she also taught children to respect each other and to enjoy life.
Lorraine Bollinger Teachers Scholarship
Lorraine Bollinger dedicated her professional life to education as a high school English teacher. This scholarship is a fitting tribute awarded annually to a prospective teacher.
This scholarship was established for students enrolled in the second year of the Associate Degree Nursing Program at NVC.
James Milton Booth Scholarship
This scholarship is given in memory of James Booth who was an employee at NVC.
Claire Bremer Memorial
Claire Bremer, a divorced single parent, made numerous sacrifices so her son could be the first in the family to attend college. She took pride in his career as a professor at NVC. Many of her friends and family, members of the NVC family, and her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Diane Bremer, contribute to this scholarship which is awarded to a worthy student.
Jackson Bremer Memorial
Jackson Bremer, a strong supporter of higher education, was the father of Richard Bremer, Professor of English at NVC. NVC faculty established the scholarship, and each year Professor Bremer and his family fund the award for a meritorious student.
Elisabeth Brereton Memorial
Elisabeth Brereton was a member of the original NVC Foundation Friends. Her husband, Dr. Hugh Brereton, served on the NVC Board of Trustees.
Dale and Cynthia Brown Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student with financial need.
Billy Browning Memorial
This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student in the NVC music program.
Dewey Burnsed Memorial
Dewey Burnsed of the Napa Police Department believed in the young people of this community and encouraged them socially and educationally. His wife Joanne established this scholarship in his memory to assist students working toward a career in law enforcement.
George and Carole Cammarota Memorial Scholarship
George and Carole were teachers. This scholarship is for a student pursuing a career in teaching.
Alan & Ann Cash Scholarship
This scholarship honors Alan Cash and was established by his wife, Ann. Just as Alan worked to support his family while attending college, he wants to assist a working student.
Donald F. Chandler Memorial
Don Chandler was a man of special qualities who made life fun even in the most trying times. He encouraged others to exceed their personal expectations. Don was a Certified Public Accountant and Vice President of Finance for Wine World Estates. This accounting scholarship was established by many of his friends and family who cared deeply for him, in the hope that others would continue their quest for education which was so important to Don.

This fund was founded in the hope of giving encouragement and inspiration to deserving students in higher education.
Chinberg Family Scholarship
This scholarship was formed to promote and support those students who have a desire to work hard and set goals for themselves.
Dr. George W. Clark Family Scholarship
This scholarship began as a tribute to Barbara Clark, the daughter of the late Dr. George Clark, NVC President (1967-1980) and his wife, Lois. George was one of the founders of the NVC Foundation.
Ray Cleone Memorial
This scholarship is in memory of Ray Cleone who liked to help people.
Judy Cochran Scholarship
This scholarship is dedicated to Judy Cochran in honor of her 18 years of outstanding work as choral/vocal accompanist at NVC. It is awarded to an outstanding choral/vocal student.
Serena Cochran Memorial
Serena Cochran was one of the community members who stepped forward to offer classes aimed at returning women students in the late 70’s. She developed and taught a class on the Single Parent family. She was a mentor to both Lauren Coodley and former Human Resources dean Evie Trevethan.
Ed Cole Memorial
This scholarship is working toward endowment. Ed Cole spent 37 years helping children and families through Napa County Child Protective Services. This scholarship, provided in loving memory by his family and friends, is for students who are going into the Human Services field.

Dallas Family Scholarship Fund
The Dallas Family is a long-time advocate of community college education and a long-time supporter of our students at Napa Valley College. This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of B. John and Gladys Dallas, and their son Ian Dallas, providing three separate awards for three different educational goals. The Dallas family may be best remembered for the renowned Johns Rose Garden at their residence in Napa. Over a span of 40 years John, with the help of his family and fellow horticulturists, transformed their acre-and-a-half horse pasture into a glorious rose garden. After John’s death in February, 2000, the Dallas family opened up their renowned garden to the public one day each year for 10 years until Gladys passed away in 2010.
John’s Rose Garden Scholarship
This award is in memory of John Dallas is for a student pursuing an Associate of Science degree. John taught landscape and horticulture classes at Napa and Solano community colleges.
GLADYS Dallas Memorial
The Gladys Dallas memorial is for a student who wants to become an educator. She served as Napa Valley College’s first full-time counselor, retiring after 23 years of services.
Ian Dallas Memorial
The Ian Dallas memorial is for a student who is the first in their family to pursue a higher education degree – an effort highly valued by Ian.
Francine Breslin Davis Memorial Scholarship
Francine was a writer, film director and professor who profoundly believed in the essential impact education had toward the betterment of the individual and humanity. This scholarship is given in her memory by those who loved her and who honor the principles to which she dedicated her life. It is to be used to aid a student in the study of fine arts, writing or literature. They were her passions.
Frank C. Davis Memorial Scholarship
Working toward endowment, this scholarship will be awarded in memory of Frank Davis, husband of Judy Davis who coordinated the NVC scholarship program for over 25 years. Frank was a loving husband and father who had an incredible zest for life and always enjoyed every moment to the fullest. Frank was kind, generous, loving and extraordinarily sociable.
John P. & Frances G. Devincenzi Memorial
John P. Devincenzi, a man with a keen interest in business and finance, spent his life helping others. A loving wife and mother, Frances G. Devincenzi’s passionate dedication to her family was demonstrated by her work inside and outside the home. The scholarship that honors their memories was established by their daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Richard Bremer.
Dey, L.P. Respiratory Scholarship
Dey, L.P. is a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on providing drugs for treatment of respiratory and allergy-related diseases. This scholarship is given to students in Respiratory Medicine in honor of their academic achievements and future contributions in respiratory health care.
James Stephen Diemer Memorial
This scholarship is given in memory of Dr. Diemer who was President of NVC and a distinguished professor.
Mary Doud Memorial
This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student interested in the field of pharmacological studies.
Glenn “Pop” Du Bose Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding athlete. “Pop” Du Bose was a coach at NVC.
Frank & Betty Dunlap Memorial
Established by friends and family of Frank and Betty Dunlap, this scholarship is a living tribute to their commitment to this valley and its residents.
Johnnie Fawl Memorial
This scholarship was founded in honor of Dr. Steven Fawl’s father, Johnnie Fawl, who was both a naturalist and an author. This award is to alternate between a student in natural science in even years, and an English student aspiring to be an author in odd years.
Dr. Bill Feddersen Leadership Scholarship
This scholarship was established to recognize and encourage student leadership and service to the school community. Dr. Feddersen, a strong supporter of Student Life Programs, served as President of NVC from 1980-1991.
Dolores Fischer Scholarship for International Education
During her nearly thirty years of service to Napa Valley College, Dolores worked to establish and expand the International Education Program. Recognizing the extraordinary benefit that study abroad brings to students, international education continues today as a vital and enriching program for NVC.
Keith Flaherty Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a transfer student interested in pharmaceutical science.
Fogarty Family Endowment
This fund was established to honor Rose and Walter Fogarty. Their son, Walter “Jim” Fogarty Jr., was integral to the formation of the Foundation and served as a past president.
Dennis Ow Fong Memorial Scholarship
Honoring the memory of Dennis Fong, who strongly believed in education, this scholarship was established in hopes of giving encouragement to deserving students in higher education.
Bradley L. Forrest Scholarship
Bradley Forrest, liked and known for his sense of humor, worked for Napa State Hospital as a Licensed Vocational Nurse for over 29 years. He helped and supported many people, participated in the Special Olympics, the Allied Health Program and the Napa Humane Society. His friends established this tribute in his memory.
Jim Fox Memorial
This scholarship is given in memory of Andrew James Fox who was Business Manager and Vice President of the college from 1978-1987. He is remembered by his family and colleagues as a man of integrity, humor and immense goodwill.
Eugene Frediani Memorial
This scholarship is for either a student majoring in viticulture or a continuing student.
Fruehauf Memorial Scholarship
Hubert F. Fruehauf was a former NVC Board of Trustees President, co-founder of the NVC Foundation, and whose son, Hubert L. Fruehauf, was an officer of the Associated Student Body while attending NVC. This scholarship memorializes both father and son and is awarded to a deserving student.
Jacinto “Jake” Gallegos Memorial
Jacinto “Jake” Gallegos died much too early. His family and friends give this scholarship in his memory. Jake would shyly smile his approval.
Gant Family Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a student who started in the NVC English as a Second Language program and is now studying general education or vocational courses.
Gary & Patty Garaventa Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student with financial need.
Gardner Hall Ceramics Scholarship
Gordon Gardner, father of Carolyn Broadwell, valued education above all else and was very proud of his family’s academic achievements. Suzi Hall was proud to call herself a potter. She gave generously of herself and her time to support all aspects of the ceramics program. This scholarship is dedicated to their memory.

This scholarship is awarded to assist NVC students to further their higher education.

This scholarship is in memory of Carl Y. Geiser, a very dedicated and dear man who believed in education, for a deserving student
Billie Powell Ghisletta Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Billie served as a surgical nurse for the U.S Army in Word War II. She was a passionate & caring nurse who has inspired others through strength & courage. Billie’s family started this scholarship to support a nursing student who shares the same passion & devotion to the career of nursing.
Mary Gibbany Memorial
Mary Gibbany, a first grade teacher in Napa for many years, started innumerable students toward successful school experiences. Many of these students selected NVC for their post-secondary studies. Her husband Jim was one of the founders of NVC Foundation.
Edna Bierlein Gmelch Scholarship
Edna Bierlein Gmelch was a professional photographer, part-time instructor at NVC, and an enthusiastic life-long learner. Her passion was photography and studio arts which she shared with a diverse community of artists and friends in the Napa Valley. This scholarship is intended to support a studio arts student who has a commitment to community service.
Grant Heflebower lived his life through the care and love of his nurses from the very day he was born. He required 24-hour care with his medication and feeding, but that didn’t stop him from enjoying things like socializing and playing music. This scholarship is designed to assist a single parent student, an Upward Bound student or a nursing student focused on special needs with an economic need.
Carolyn Thibault Grassmann Memorial Scholarship, “A Cure for Breast Cancer”
Carolyn Grassmann was born, raised, and for more than 30 years, taught in Napa. She lived her life to serve others and to teach that the essence of our being is to love and that we can direct ourselves and others to forgive rather than judge. Her hope would be to see a deserving student with these ideals help find a cure for breast cancer, and thus allow countless others to live longer lives in love, non-judgment and forgiveness.
Lorenzina (Laura) Gustafson Memorial
This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Lorenzina (Laura) Gustafson, who was a faculty member and first Director of Student Support Services. Laura’s passion enabled her students to reach far beyond anything they thought possible.
Albert J. Haberger Memorial
This scholarship is given to a deserving nursing student.
Betty B. Hagedorn Memorial Scholarship
Betty Hagedorn was one of the founders of the NVC Child and Family Studies Program and taught the subject for many years. She was instrumental in establishing the Hagedorn Playground at the NVC Child Development Center. This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student preparing to work as a teacher of young children in public or private programs.
Dr. George Hagen Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a student who exemplifies the character of Dr. George Hagen, a former instructor and chair of the Business and Computer Studies Division.
George Harvey Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship, in memory of firefighter George Harvey, is given to someone in the health services field.
Rand Henson Memorial Scholarship
Rand Henson was an instructor of English at NVC for a relatively short period of time. His life and career were swiftly ended by AIDS. In just a handful of years, he had a profound and lasting influence upon his students and colleagues. His partner and family have established this fund to encourage those qualities of diligence, compassion and conviction in which he so firmly believed.
Hospitality de los Carneros
Hospitality de los Carneros is a collective of Napa and Sonoma wineries located within the Carneros appellation of California with the goal of educating the public on the uniqueness of the Carneros region.

Bob, Frank, Analee and Mona Humpert were all educators in the Napa school system. As is fitting with their strong belief in the value of education, their scholarship is awarded to a single parent seeking higher education.

This scholarship is for a deserving student in women’s reentry program with an emphasis on nursing programs.
Robert M. Keenan Memorial Scholarship
Robert M. Keenan was a leading influence in the architecture of the Napa Valley and will long be remembered for his design excellence and sensitivity. He generously shared his passion for life and design integrity with others, beginning the career paths of many young architects by nurturing them as student apprentices. To continue this spirit of mentoring, his family establishes this scholarship for students in the field of architecture and design.

Barry King Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is given in memory of Dr. Barry King, an internationally renowned scientist and professor at the UC Davis Medical School. Dr. King loved helping students understand science and always encouraged them to become excited about research. This scholarship supports a top NVC student who plans to transfer to UC Davis or another four-year university and major in science.
Korobkin Environmental Scholarship
The Korobkin family admired NVC and were caretakers of “Bumpy Camp.”
Dr. Stephen Krebs Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student in the NVC Viticulture and Winery Technology Program.
Wanda Lamb Scholarship
This scholarship is for a student pursuing a degree in business and a profession in banking.
Melvin and Marlene Larkin Memorial
This scholarship is presented to a student majoring in education. It is in memory of Melvin and Marlene Larkin, loving parents and teachers.
Clayton A. Long Memorial Scholarship
Over 50 years ago, Clayton A. Long had the privilege of inaugurating the NVC scholarship program. Clayton’s teaching career began in the Napa Valley in 1949 with a focus on bands and instrumental music, and culminated in his position as Assistant Superintendent of the Napa Valley Unified School District. This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding citizen and scholar of NVC who plans to transfer to a four-year university to pursue a career in some aspect of community service.
Frank and Bea Loob Endowment
This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student who has demonstrated a desire to pursue the betterment of mankind through a career in a field for which the study of biology, botany or environmental studies, as an undergraduate major, is a prerequisite.
Luntey Family Memorial
Al Luntey was the Director of Maintenance at NVC for many years and was very dedicated to the college. Friends and NVC staff established a perpetual scholarship in his name.
Donald S. Macky Scholarship
Donald Macky is best known as the college’s Master Builder. He designed NVC’s first buildings over 40 years ago. Donald was honored with the Napa Valley Environmental Design Consultant Forum Lifetime Achievement Award. This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student.
Dorothy and Hector MacLean Drama Award
This endowment is named for Dorothy and Hector MacLean. Hector was a life long actor who was well known in the Napa Valley. He was instrumental in founding several local community theatre groups. Dorothy was an accomplished musician and gave of her talents as a pianist and organist throughout the community for over 70 years. Hector and Dorothy will be remembered for appearing in many melodramas and other productions, inspiring all facets of drama and music.
Make A Difference
This scholarship was created by the NVC Foundation in an effort to help deserving student who have overcome adversity to continue their education at NVC. These returning students are working toward their AA or AS degree or toward transfer to a four-year college.
Dr. Thomas E. Malone
This scholarship is awarded in honor of Dr. Thomas E. Malone, a history professor at NVC for 20 years. Dr. Malone loved teaching. His greatest delight was to encourage enthusiasm for learning.

This scholarship is designated for a student who is going into the teaching profession.
Dr. Chris McCarthy Scholarship
Honoring the memory of Dr. Chris McCarthy, NVC president from 2002-2009, this scholarship is awarded to a student who exemplifies outstanding service to community. During his tenure, NVC campus experienced significant expansion and increased educational opportunities for our students.
Craig McCarthy Memorial Scholarship
Craig was a highly respected member of the Napa Police Department and a graduate of the NVC Criminal Justice Training Program. His peers remember him for the high level of dedication, professionalism, commitment, courage and most of all, ethics that he displayed. This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student in the NVC Criminal Justice Training Program.
Meyers Family Scholarship
The Meyers Family Scholarship is awarded to a deserving student who wishes to pursue a career as a teacher. Jane Meyers taught Humanities and English at Napa High School for many years. Vanessa Meyers has also taught high school English. Duncan and Dave Meyers have benefited from many good teachers, including those at NVC.
Julia duLay Montgomery Memorial
Julia had a passion for literature and taught English and poetry. This scholarship is for a student who is an English/Literature major with a goal of teaching and who is transferring to a 4-year college.
Julia duLay Montgomery Trust
This scholarship is in honor of Julia Johnson who believed in the importance of education as a foundation for life. Established by Penny Pawl, daughter of Julia, this scholarship is awarded to a candidate in the re-entry program.
Jayne Morrell Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a student in the Registered Nursing program who plans to work at Queen of the Valley Hospital upon graduation.
Madeleine Ehrlich Mount Scholarship
Madeleine Ehrlich Mount has been involved in the field of elementary education as a teacher, mentor and in the development of many multi-subjects’ California Projects. She has been dedicated to teaching children with socio-economic and language diversities. She would like these scholarships to enable these students to have the opportunity to further their education using NVC to achieve a career choice and/or as a stepping stone to go to a college or university.
Murdoff Family Scholarship
Awarded to a student who is a mature parent of dependent children, this scholarship is in memory of Harold F. Murdoff and in honor of his children: Ronald, Marilyn and Kenneth. Their mother Virginia Murdoff Grover was a founder of the NVC Foundation and taught at NVC for many years.
Beatrice Merritt Murphy Memorial
This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding reentry student in memory of Beatrice Merritt Murphy. As the mother of NVC alumni Tom and Cate Murphy, Bea Murphy placed a high value on lifelong learning.

Napa Valley Culinary Alliance
The Alliance was a local forum created to provide professionals involved in the food, wine, beverage, and agriculture industries the opportunity to share ideas, solve problems, create services, and to learn more about their professions. This scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the NVC Cooking School.
Napa Valley Retired Teachers Association
This organization of retired teachers from schools in the Napa Valley and other communities was formed in 1985. Funds for their scholarships have been raised through generous contributions and tributes are awarded to students pursuing a career in education.
Charles and Patricia Niccolls Memorial
This NVC Foundation scholarship is given to an outstanding student pursuing a business career. Charles was a founder of the NVC Foundation.

The Osher Initiative for California community College Students was launched by a $25 million gift from The Bernard Osher Foundation. Students must have completed at least 24 years, made satisfactory progress toward a degree, and qualify for a Board of Governors fee waiver.

Mr. Roy Patrick was a past president of NVC and one of the founders of the NVC Foundation. He sponsored the first international student who attended NVC. Mr. and Mrs. Patrick were highly regarded in the community.

Mr. Pawl became truly aware of his interest in history while attending Napa Valley College. This scholarship was established to give a deserving student help in attending a college or university of higher education.
Gerard Perez Scholarship
This scholarship is in honor of Gerard Perez. He served as the chair of the NVC Scholarship committee from 1990 - 2005, tirelessly promoting the power of scholarships to motivate students to achieve their dreams. His dedication to students and loving spirit inspired us all to share his vision.
Philip and Birdice Phillips Memorial
Mr. and Mrs. Phillips were beloved in the community. Birdice Phillips taught in the Napa Valley Unified School District for many years, and her husband served on the Board of Education. The Phillips Elementary School is named as a tribute to Birdice Phillips. This scholarship was established through a bequest.
Richard Pierce Memorial
Richard J. Pierce was a local businessman who had a strong belief in, and a long history of support for the Napa public schools. He was President of the Napa Scholastic Society when that organization conducted the campaign to finance and build the Napa Memorial Stadium. He was a former member and past president of the Napa Board of Education, and one of the earliest members of the NVC Foundation.

Belle Rhodes Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Dr. Bernard and Mrs. Belle Rhodes to support a deserving student currently enrolled and in good standing at the Napa Valley Cooking School. Belle and Barney were longtime supporters of food and wine initiatives in the Napa Valley and were instrumental in raising the funds to help establish the Napa Valley Cooking School.
Rotary Club of Napa
The Rotary Club of Napa has a membership of professional and business leaders from the Napa community. Among its numerous community service activities, the Club sponsors a variety of programs for Napa’s youth and scholarships for outstanding local students.
Roland “Corky” Schrette Family Scholarship
This scholarship began in memory of Roland “Corky” Schrette, NVC graduate and NVC Foundation Board Member. Corky was an active member of the College’s athletic program and played football for NVC in the 1950’s. He became an active member of the Napa community. This scholarship is awarded to a deserving NVC athlete.

This scholarship was established in memory of Richard Struble, a wonderful artist in his own right, particularly in wood carving, and a very caring person. This scholarship is for a student majoring in the art field.

Elsie M. (Sue) Tarner Memorial Scholarship
Sue Tarner spent nearly 40 years as a dedicated, caring and compassionate nurse. Most of those years were spent at Queen of the Valley Hospital and the Veteran’s Home. She received a nursing scholarship, enabling her to continue her education. She would be pleased to know that other students were being given the same opportunity. This scholarship is provided in loving memory of Sue Tarner by her family and friends.
Dr. Arlin G. And Virginia L. Taylor Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a student with a major or career goal in a vocational or technical education program. Arlin was Dean of Vocational Education at NVC from the mid 1960’s through the early 1980’s and guided the development of many of NVC vocational programs. Virginia was a teacher of pre-kindergarten to elementary age students and later sold real estate in Napa.
Congressman Mike Thompson Public Service Scholarship
This scholarship was established to encourage and support individuals who want to enter the field of public service.
Arthur & Dorothy Tockey Memorial
This scholarship was established in memory of Arthur and Dorothy Tockey who founded Napa Electric in 1939.

The Robert Toigo Scholarship is awarded to a student who, like Bob Toigo, exemplifies generosity, decency, and leadership.
Turning Point Scholarship
The Turning Point Scholarship is given by The Women’s Resource and Action Program to support the academic goals of re-entry students at NVC. Much of the funding has been provided by the Comber Connection, an auxiliary group of women members of the Chamber of Commerce, as well as many individuals.

This NVC Foundation Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student in the Machine Tool Technology Program.
Cerina Renee Vollmer Memorial
This scholarship was created for NVC students who might benefit as much as Cerina did during her two years (1998-2000) there in which she earned five associate in arts degrees (with honors) before transferring to UC Davis. At NVC, Cerina explored a number of interests beyond her major such as art, music, and physical fitness, and was particularly grateful to the faculty for encouraging her growth. Though she was a victim of a tragic auto accident in May 2001, her giving heart and vibrant spirit hopefully will live on in this endowed scholarship dedicated to her memory.
Frank Wager Memorial Scholarship
Frank Wagar, a cowboy who loved English, was voted “most inspirational journalism student” at NVC at age 75. As the hard-working editor of the NVC College Times, he established a literary page in the paper. As a volunteer tutor, he shared his love of learning and helped other students succeed in college. He supported the college and the Foundation in many ways.
Walker Family Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship is offered as encouragement and support to a student in financial need who is pursuing higher education for a career in the field of nursing.
Justice Wes Walker Scholarship
The Justice Wes Walker Scholarship is given in memory of Napa County's First Appellate Court Justice to a deserving student desiring to pursue a career related to law or environmental protection or enviornmental improvement.
Weidler Family Scholarship
This scholarship is for a student transferring to a 4-year college for business related courses or to become a teacher of business related subjects. Julian Weidler was one of the founders of the NVC Foundation.
Sylvia Weidler Memorial
Sylvia Weidler taught for the Napa Valley Unified School District for many years. This scholarship is meant to support a student who is pursuing an elementary or secondary teaching credential.
Linda S. White-Settle Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship honors the life of Linda S. White-Settle, who for 27 years battled end stage renal disease. Her enduring will and tenacious attitude was a message to all that you must overcome your circumstances in order to have the will to succeed.
The Kenneth Edward Wilkens Memorial Art Scholarship
Kenneth E. Wilkens had a fine career as a watercolorist. He was an art teacher at Napa High School and an art instructor in watercolors at NVC.

This scholarship is in memory of Burrell Wilson who was a mathematics instructor in Napa for many years.

Wayne Wilson was on the Board of Trustees of the Napa Elementary School District as well as the NVC Board of Trustees.

Dr. Diane Carey Woodruff Scholarship
Dr. Diane Carey Woodruff was the first woman president of NVC. Her husband, Tom Woodruff, started this scholarship to honor Diane as well as to acknowledge the people who contributed to the scholarships that enabled him to attend college.
Marvin Yeiter Memorial
Marvin Yeiter was active in numerous local civic clubs and organizations. He served on the NVC Board of Trustees from 1971 through 1975.
