All prospective foster parents (now called Resource Families) are invited to a one hour Orientation Class to get information about what is needed to become a resource family . These classes are offered the third Thursday of each month at Napa County Children's Services, now located at 2751 Napa Valley Corporate Drive, Napa, Ca, 94558.

Pre Service Training: an introduction class for those interested in becoming licensed as a resource family (foster parent, caring for relative's children or becoming an adoptive parent through the State of California Adoption’s unit). The class is presented in 9 three hour sessions.
Specific areas covered:
- An overview of The Child Protection System
- The effects of abuse and neglect on children
- Accessing health services and community resources
- Court system
- Impact of foster and relative parenting
There is no cost for this training.
Once licensed, you are mandated by the state to receive 12 hours of training per year in order to maintain your license. Training hours can be earned by attending the numerous classes and workshops offered throughout Napa County. Check our calendar for new classes and workshops.
