About the NVC Viticulture & Winery Technology (VWT) Program
Approximately 1,000 students are currently enrolled in the NVC VWT program, and an estimated 80% of these students are employed in the wine industry. NVC VWT students experience every aspect of the wine industry process from work in the vineyard to the marketing and sale of the wine.
The NVC VWT program has also received generous support from the community. Since 2006, over $950,000 in contributions and services, including donations of equipment and supplies, have provided direct support to the educational courses in viticulture and winery technology at NVC.
NVC is the site of the first bonded and licensed winery located on a community college campus in California. Awarded a winery bond in 2008, the NVC Winery Foundation operates the winery, which is fully integrated into the Viticulture and Winery Technology instructional program at Napa Valley College. All of the wine produced is made from grapes grown on NVC’s six acre vineyard located on the Napa Valley College campus. Every aspect of the wine making process is completed on the campus in the college’s winery and cellar facilities.
The proceeds from the sale of NVC Estate Wines are used to support the educational mission of the NVC Viticulture and Winery Technology Department, directly assisting NVC to train future Napa Valley grape growers and winemakers. Revenues enable NVC to acquire state-of-the-art winemaking equipment, adding to the profile of the state-of-the-art program. NVC VWT students are some of the best prepared students for the wine industry.
