4th Annual Storm Classic Successful Again
A Real Team Effort
The 4th Annual Storm Classic Golf Tournament went off under sunny skies on Monday, and it once again was a very successful event. The tournament is held to raise funds for the athletic department. Despite extremely harsh economic times, the Napa Valley community once again came through in support of the program. Over 100 businesses and individuals donated sponsorships and/or products and services. Almost 100 individuals golfed, and we appreciate the participants. Many individuals contributed time and effort. Once again, this event showcased the spirit of our community and emphasized the lesson that a team effort can and will overcome obstacles.
We in the athletic department are grateful for the support of all who contributed in any way to the event. Sonia Wright, Betty Malmgren, and Kathy Baird were relentless in their effort to create a successful tournament. Sonia and Kathy coordinated the event, kept track of everything, and kept Jim and Kevin under control. Betty provided outstanding publicity and leads and sought donations right up until tournament time. Richard Bruns again provided expert work on the registration forms and posters. Ira C. Smith was superb in his auctioneer role. Judy Heys, Luma Sheet, Mike Ronald, and Nadine Wade Gravett worked diligently before and during the tournament. Kelly McCann, Jose Oriarte, Joe Criscones, Lily Pineda, Lisa Luckey, and the Napa Valley College athletes provided outstanding help on the day of the tournament. Coaches Bob Freschi, Steve Ball, Michelle Hobbs, Kelly Van Winden, Les Carroll, and Chris Kvidahl all contributed throughout the tournament process in a variety of ways. Athletic department staff members Sandy Ross, Dana Buttny, and Cathy Mathews participated behind the scenes. The Napa Valley College board of trustees, administration, faculty, and staff came through again with participation, donations, and support. And, of course, Jim Wiechers was a driving force in organization, donation procurement, and tournament process.
The list could go on and on. That truly is what makes us grateful. So, many people did what they could. Thank you for that gift.
