The 2008-2009 Napa Valley College Men’s Basketball team has finished the re-building process and is poised to assert itself as a competitive program in California. Last season saw the Storm finish at 16-17 and 4th place in the Bay Valley Conference (BVC) for the second consecutive year. Their best finish in nearly a decade. With wins against ranked opponents, a pair of second place finishes in pre-season tournaments and hard faught losses to the 2007 State Champion (Fresno City College) and the 2008 State Champion (Citrus College), Storm Basketball officailly arrived as force in 2007-2008.
With an influx of talent and toughness this years team looks to carry on where last years team left off. Look for the Storm to dictate the tempo of the game with their defense and transition game. All-BVC guard Aaron Trigg (Armijo HS) and a pair of athletic All-BVC honorable mention players in Matt Jenkins (Vallejo HS) and Ashton Foster (Vallejo HS) return for the storm to provide a strong core along with fellow sophmores Troy Sugick (Hogan HS), Terry Aryee (Viena, Austria), and Fidel Alva (Sanger HS). Incoming Freshman include a crafty point guard Luigi Valencia (Windsor HS), well rounded wing Scott Sewel (Windsor HS) and 3 point threat Taylor Passion (Casa Grande HS) all coming to us from the Sonoma County Leage. The Napa Valley is also well represented in this years crop of Freshman with Kip Kendall (Vintage HS), Gage Harty (Napa HS), Giules Particelli (Justin-Siena HS) and Dre Gomes (Saint Helena HS) all putting in hard work to represent thier area well. Providing size this year will be 6'7" Tyler Dixon (Tomales HS).
There is quite a bit of talent on the roster this year and we look forward to the support of the college and the community. A strong work ethic and ties to the area have strengthened the program to a point that has not been seen for over a decade. We look forward to continued support from our community as we continue to improve...Together!
