2012-2013 Men's Basketball Team
The 2012-2013 Napa Valley College Men's Basketball team will have a brand new look. With a much deeper squad of 14 players the Storm willbe able to play a variety of styles. With 13 of those faces being brand new to NVC Men's Basketball, we are looking to pick up on things quickly as the season opener is against the defending state champion Fresno City College.
Sophomore Javonte
Wills(Fairfield HS) is the only player with experience at NVC. Wills had an
excellent freshman season in 2010-2011 before sitting out last season. As a
freshan Wills averaged 12 points and 4 assists per game, and we are looking for
those numbers to improve as he has grown as a player over the past year. Our
other sophomore is Sam Howell who comes to us from Seattle Prep in Seattle
Washington. Sam’s freshman season at Shoreline Community College was cut short
by injury and he is looking to bounce back for a strong sophomore season.
New faces to the
program include a pair of guards from Rodriguez High School in D’Monte Britt
and Rodney Fisher. Fisher and Britt were both three year varsity players and had
a combined record of 69-22 in those seasons. Joining the Storm after a
red-shirt year at Sonoma State is Kristian Grobecker. While at SSU Kristian
maintained a 3.7 gpa. Nate Gibbins is another freshman guard for the 2012-2013
Storm. He comes from Vanden High School where he helped the Vikings to a 22-7
mark as a senior. Daniel Galarza, a Will C Wood Grad, is expected to help the Storm
at the guard spot this year as well.
Contributions from the wing spot will come from a flurry of
freshman including Tommy Frye Jr (JFK, Richmond) and Sky Geerts (Winters HS). Both
Geerts and Frye will provide us with versatile scoring options and the ability
to defend inside and out. Corey Burrell (Bethel HS) will bring length and the
ability to shoot the ball to the position, while Jackson Bandy(Jackson Olin HS,
Birmingham, AL) and Kameron Kiech(Windsor HS) will bring energy to the group.
In the post you will see Ben Jazuk(Benicia HS) and Joel
Webb(Laguna Creek HS). Jazuk will provide rebounding and the ability to shoot
to the mix, while Webb will provide length and shot blocking.
We are very excited to get the season underway and look
forward to your support.
There is quite a bit of talent on the roster this year and we look forward to the support of the college and the community. A strong work ethic and ties to the area have strengthened the program to a point that has not been seen for over a decade. We look forward to continued support from our community as we continue to improve...Together!
