 FEDERAL WORK STUDY PROGRAM

Federal Work Study is a federally funded program.  A work study award is a form of financial aid which provides employment opportunities for students who need financial assistance in order to meet college expenses. Students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) www.fafsa.ed.gov to be considered for a work study award.

 Federal Work Study Eligibility

·         Demonstrate financial need.

·         Have a High School Diploma or its equivalent.

·         Be a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen (international students are not eligible).

·         Enroll in an eligible program leading to a degree or certificate at Napa Valley College.

·         Maintain Financial Aid Academic Progress - click for policy and definitions.

·         Must enroll and maintain at least six units per semester..

·         Males 18-25 years of age must register with the U.S. Selective Service.

Students must submit any other information required to complete their financial aid file in order to determine their financial need and eligibility for Federal Work Study.  NOTE: For priority consideration, submit the FAFSA by March 2nd every year!

Federal Work Study Benefits

A work study award does not guarantee employment, but has benefits not available in regular employment: work study income is not included when financial aid need is determined each year, so eligibility for other types of financial aid may increase, such as scholarships, grants, or subsidized loans.
