Community Presentations - “RESPONDING TO THE CHANGING NEEDS IN HIGHER EDUCATION IN THE GREATER NAPA VALLEY”

Informational forums with Napa Valley College President Ron Kraft

The current skyrocketing cost of college education will be among several topics addressed at a series of community meetings with Napa Valley College President Dr. Ron Kraft throughout Napa County during the months of September and October. Kraft will discuss local higher education and workforce training needs and how Napa Valley College plans to respond to them in coming years.

These public meetings provide an opportunity for community members to learn more about Napa Valley College’s plans to ensure its future viability as a local source of affordable, high-quality higher education and job training opportunities.

Dr. Kraft will outline the college’s core priorities, which include:

  •  Preparing students to transfer to four-year colleges or universities
  •  Providing career technical education in fields such as welding, viticulture, machine tool technology, and other trades
  •  Expanding veterans’ resources to assist their return to civilian life

Meetings are scheduled for 6 p.m. on:

  • Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Upper Valley Campus of Napa Valley College, 1088 College Ave., St. Helena (with light refreshments prepared by Napa Valley Cooking School students and alumni)
  • Thursday, Oct. 2, at a to be determined location in Napa
  • Wednesday, Oct.8, at Calistoga High School,  1608 Lake St., Calistoga

Our Superintendent/PresidentPresident Ronald Kraft

Dr. Ronald Kraft became the ninth Superintendent/President of Napa Valley College on May 9, 2013, after serving the previous nine months as the Interim President of the college.

Dr. Kraft has spent over 25 years in California community colleges. His career includes tenured faculty positions in business and entrepreneurship; and administrative positions in instruction, workforce development, institutional advancement and research.  

Previous appointments include President/CEO at Southern California University of Health Sciences and President/CEO in the Washington State Community & Technical System.  Dr. Kraft holds a bachelor’s degree in business, a master’s degree in education, and a Ph.D. in leadership.

He is a member of Napa Rotary and serves as a Director on the Napa-Lake Workforce Investment Board and the Napa Learns Foundation Board.

A resident of Napa, Dr. Kraft is a native of San Diego, California. A first-generation college student himself, Ron has focused on expanding the number of students from first-generation college families attending the college.

Dr. Kraft is an author, speaker and former consultant to corporations, universities and colleges. A distinguished teacher, Dr. Kraft is recognized for his lectures, books and writings on strategic planning, change management theory and practice, leadership, and entrepreneurship. He is an expert in the development of institutional systems and the processes, planning and leadership mechanisms that create momentum for change.
