Welcome to the Spring Semester
This spring on the Napa Valley College campus will be one of transition and one of promise. As interim president, I would like to update our students and community members on the changes underway that will shape our college’s future.
Following the loss of the college’s president, Dr. Chris McCarthy, the college is moving forward with the careful and thoughtful process that will culminate in the selection of the college’s next superintendent/president. We will have an open and inclusive process to find the most outstanding educator possible to lead Napa Valley College confidently into a promising future.
The spring semester will also bring the excitement of renewal as the campus is transformed by new buildings and expanded opportunities for our students. Many students are already enjoying the beautiful learning spaces of the new Life Sciences Building and the Ceramics Building. Next year, we will celebrate the openings of the Performing Arts Center, North Gym, and the Library. At its meeting of October 20, 2009, after wide input from students, faculty, staff, and the community, the Napa Valley College Board of Trustees approved the naming of the new college library in honor of Dr. Chris McCarthy.
As you look forward to the spring with all of us at Napa Valley College, please consider the compelling reasons for becoming a student here: outstanding preparation for transfer to a four-year institution; training for a rewarding career; affordable, close-to-home higher education; and the personal enrichment that comes from learning. Join us this semester and find out how Napa Valley College can make a difference in your life.
Sincerely,

Armond Phillips
Interim Superintendent/President
