Yolanda Woods: Math Instructor
Welcome to my webpage. My job here at Napa Valley College is to teach mathematics and in so doing, to enable students to prepare themselves for exciting futures in STEM careers. In case you are wondering what STEM is, it stands for:
These are areas where there is a shortage of qualified people and particularly a shortage of Latinos. To ensure that under-represented minorities have equal access to STEM majors and careers, the faculty and staff have worked hard to acquire a grant as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). This grant has enabled us to purchase new computers in the Math Success Center (MSC), the computer lab in room 834, the MESA Center, among other places. These purchases serve all members of our college community.
Additionally full-time bilingual faculty have been put in place to aid those students and their parents for whom language may be a barrier to important information. It pleases me to be a part of this effort.
What this means is that, in addition to my office hours, I will be available in the MSC for students. Please note the offfice hours in the column to the right. This service is available to all members of our college community who need help in math.
I hope to get to know many of you as you take my math classes and perhaps explore your options in well-paid and exciting STEM careers.
