Information Competency Program

The Library's Information Competency Program is dedicated to ensuring that all Napa Valley College students are able to effectively navigate the vast amount of information available in a digital society. To meet this goal, the library provides a range of instructional tools designed to meet the general and discipline-specific needs of students and faculty. These tools include curriculum-integrated information fluency sessions, a 12-week class (ENGL 298), reference assistance, and individual research consultation.

In fall 2009, the Library began offering a one-unit Information Competency/Research Methods course. The one unit course, entitled Introduction to Library Research (ENGL 298), was linked with English 120 initially.  We are currently considering offering the course again in Spring 2011 as a stand-alone course in response to student demand.  The purpose of the course is to introduce students to the skills needed to find, evaluate, use and communicate information in print, electronic and Internet format.   Librarians Stephanie Grohs and Nancy McEnery teach the course.
