PSYC/SOCI 123       Social Psychology

Monday and Wednesday, 9:30am-10:50 am

This class will examine the fundamental concepts of social psychology from the sociocultural, evolutionary, social learning, and the social cognitive perspectives. The role of self and others will be discussed with particular attention paid to the goals and motives of social behavior, and the interactions between the person and the situation.

SOCI 120   Introduction to Sociology 

Tuesday and Thursday, 11:00am - 12:20 pm

This class will examine the fundamental concepts of sociology from the structural-functionalist and conflict perspectives. The role of the self and others in the socialization process will be discussed, with particular attention paid to symbolic interaction. These concepts will be revealed and discussed in the context of an examination of the major institutions of society: the economy, political order, family, education, religion, and health and medicine.

SOCI 122    Introduction to Social Problems

This class will include an identification and analysis of the basic concepts, theoretical approaches and methods of contemporary social problems including: (1) the role of power and ideology in the definition of social problems, (2) causes and consequences of social problems, and (3) methods of intervention. Topics may include illness, environmental issues, abuse, migration, poverty, crime, unemployment, and war.
