Napa Valley College choruses perform a on Saturday, November 21 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, November 22 at 3 p.m. The NVC Singers will weave a wide range of choral music from the classical masters to international folk music and gospel hymns.
Participating in this concert will be the College Chorale, a mixed chorus performing a combination of passionate folk literature and such popular standards as: “Tuxedo Junction” with its traditional “swing style” of the Big Band era, and “California Dreamin'” popularized in the 1960’s by The Mamas and the Papas. Accompanying them on drums will be Steve Trovao; Elaine Herrick on bass and Mark Osten on piano. The group is directed by NVC faculty member, Vaida Falconbridge.
The Women's Chorale will begin the concert with some Seventeenth Century a cappella classics, quickly transferring from the gorgeous complex harmonies of the love ballad, “Miracolo d'amore” to the spirited galliard dance “Chi la gagliarda.” Going contemporary in their second set, they will perform the mysterious “Pink Panther,” and “The Blessing,” a well-known haunting melodic tune recorded by the Celtic Women. Dr. Eve-Anne Wilkes directs this group with Mark Osten accompanying on keyboard.
The Gospel Choir, directed by Myiia "Sunny" Hawkins, will be performing inspirational hymns performed in the contemporary gospel style. Ms. Hawkins has been directing this group for two years, expanding its membership, while also increasing her role on the faculty by teaching a beginning voice class. The Gospel Choir will be accompanied by Jamie Hawkins, keyboard; Elijah Green, bass; Cam Perridge, guitar; and Dante Roberson on drums.
Tickets are $15 for adults; $10 for students, seniors and military personnel.
