New women’s basketball coach named at Napa Valley College

Vincent L. Shaw

Vincent L. Shaw has been named head women’s basketball coach at Napa Valley College. Shaw has been assistant men’s coach.

"We had a very talented pool to choose from for this position.  We were very impressed with the quality of the applicants and feel that Vince will bring a depth of experience, skill and energy to the program.  His knowledge, experience at the two and four year level,  and passion will help to create a very competitive women's basketball program at Napa Valley College," said Kevin Luckey, dean of physical education and athletics. Shaw has started working with the returning players and is hoping to build from that base, Luckey notes.

Shaw’s career includes two years with the Sonoma State University Seawolves, an NCAA Division II team, four years at Solano College and two more years at Santa Rosa Junior College. Shaw has an MS from St. Mary’s College in Kinesiology and a BS in Kinesiology from Sonoma State University. He is a graduate of Santa Rosa Junior College.

“I am very excited for this opportunity. I look forward to building this program. Working with the community, local high school athletes, and coaches is my top priority. My nine years of collegiate coaching experience and individual training sessions leaves me qualified to accept this role and challenge. I see nothing but good things in the future for Napa Valley College Women’s Basketball. I will be dedicating myself to contacting and recruiting local athletes and working with local high school coaches to bring student athletes to the NVC program,” Shaw said.
