Celebration dinner set for Feb. 25

The Napa Valley College student government (ASNVC), Umoja Community and Black Student Union will host the 9th annual African American Celebration Dinner on February 25, 2010 at 6 p.m. in the Cafeteria. The theme for this year is "A recipe for success." Soul food will be served.

The speaker will be Marc Q. Jones, a successful basketball coach, consultant, motivational speaker and entrepreneur.

Coach Q,” according to his bio, has helped students, employees and executives develop their potential for more than 20 years. His message is relevant, eye-opening and encouraging to allow self-discovery to empower and provide people with the tools to guide them to a “championship life.” In his motivational message, “How to Develop Your Championship Potential,” he emphasizes the three P’s – Potential, Process and Product to demonstrate how to identify, focus and develop your latent potential. He uses real-life experiences, wisdom and humor to highlight the point that, at any stage of life regardless of past or present circumstances, anyone can tap into the power within. Presentations are based on his belief that we all have potential to develop and refine our greatness.

Entertainment will be provided by Harry Caldwell, Cameron Edwards, William Garrett and Horatio Finley, the four components that formulate the inspirational sounds of "Purchased." According to information provided, the group has been ministering and performing in California for quite some time. They have appeared on street corners, in concert halls and with a variety of performers including Rance Allen, The Stars of Glory, Lenny Williams and many more. The music is described as a special blend of old school and contemporary gospel harmonics.
