ASSESSMENT TESTING IS AVAILABLE YEAR-ROUND ON A
DROP-IN FIRST COME/FIRST SERVE BASIS
You must have applied for admission to Napa Valley College at least 24 hours prior to testing and you must bring a picture ID.
Students can test Monday through Thursday between the hours of 8:30 am and 2:00 pm. Student arriving after 2:00 pm will not be allowed to start the test. Please do not bring personal items as storage space is limited. Cell phones and other electronic devices are not allowed.

Ability to Benefit Testing
Referrals for the Ability to Benefit Test are made through the Financial Aid Office. Once you have received a referral from the Financial Aid Office contact the Testing and Tutoring Center to make an appointment to take the test.
Test Administration for Students With Special Accommodations
If you have documented disabilities and are permited to take your tests at the TTC, please make sure your instructor is aware of your need for accommodations by requesting that the instructor be notified by disability staff. Testing is done on a drop-in basis unless students require assistance during testing (such as a scribe or reader). If you are allowed this accommodations, please call the TTC to reserve a room that meets your needs in advance of your test date.
All students are required to present a photo ID at the time of testing.

Examination Make-Up
The primary purpose of the TTC is to proctor tests for students with documented disabilities. We will proctor tests for the general student population as a courtesy. Please be aware that students with accommodations have testing priority. During times of high testing activity (such as midterms and finals), students with accommodations will be served first.
If you need to test at the TTC make arrangements with your instructor in advance. Picture ID is required.
G.E.D. Testing
The current GED testing schedule is available - 2010 GED Test Dates and Instructions and on the TTC Calendar. The G.E.D. costs $150 payable in cash at the time of registration. Registration takes place the week before each set of test dates. You will need to bring a government issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, passport, etc.), $150 in cash, and allow about twenty minutes to complete the registration process.
If you have already taken the G.E.D. and only need to retake a test or two, please call the TTC to make arrangements.

Assessment Testing
Computerized English, math and English as a second language (ESL) assessment testing is offered year round on a drop-in first come first serve basis. Appointments are NOT necessary. Drop in testing begins at 8:30 am and ends at 2:00 pm Monday through Thursday. Anyone arriving after 2:00 pm will not be permitted to test. A picture identification is required.

Proctoring for Distance Learning Classes

Tutor Training
All Napa Valley College tutors and Supplemental Instruction Leaders must attend tutor training, which is CRLA certified (College Reading and Learning Association). Tutors are recommended by instructors and are endorsed by Jeremy Ecklin, Testing and Tutoring Center Assistant. They are required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and atleast a B grade in the class they are tutoring. Tutors and SI Leaders learn how to facilitate learning and incorporate study skills and test taking techniques. Tutoring is generally 1:1. SI Leaders schedule group study sessions. Tutoring/Supplemental Instruction
Math tutors are available in the Math Center. The schedule varies by semester, check the Math Center schedule for hours. Tutors for other subjects vary by semester.
English students can get 1:1 help at the Writing Center. Appointments can be made in person at room 832.
Supplemental Instruction encourages collaborative learning and integrates how-to-study with what-to-study. SI is assigned to traditionally difficult courses. SI courses vary by semester.
