NVC Singers in Japan - 2008

Tour of Japan (December 2008) by the Napa Valley College Singers

In December 2008, the Napa Valley College Singers travelled to sing the Beethoven Ninth with the Iwanuma choir and the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, in Napa’s Japanese sister city.  The Ninth Symphony is traditionally sung during the holiday season in Japan and the text by Schiller represents the sense of community we all felt as choir members hosted us in their homes and treated us as honored guests representing the sister city exchange between Iwanuma and Napa.  This was the 35th anniversary in that exchange.  (The text by Schiller begins, “All people are united as brothers and sisters,” broadly translated from the German.)

In October 2010, the NVC Singers along with the Napa community will be hosting the Japanese sister city singers.   The choir from Iwanuma will be joining the NVC singers on the stage of our new Performing Arts Center for a gala opening concert.
