Welcome to the Online Educators Resource Center! This page contains information and resources to support the growth and continuous improvement of online education at Napa Valley College.
The Office of Instruction is committed to the growth of online education and will support development of new online courses based on the criteria described below. Unfortunately, the current budget is no longer able to support a stipend for course development.
- Courses required for a certificate or degree.
- Courses that will replace traditional classes normally scheduled between 9:00AM and 1:00PM.
- Courses that replace an under-enrolled traditional class that, when presented online, would attract higher enrollment.
Faculty interested in developing a new online course should complete the following steps.
A. Prepare a "Form D" in WebCMS for the course being considered for presentation online. Curriculum Committee approval is required prior to a new online course being developed.
B. Complete the Online Course Development Proposal form available from the Documents folder listed on the left side of this web page.
Once the form is approved by the Division Chair and Office of Instruction, a course "shell" will be created in Blackboard. The Online Education Team will provide new course developers with a mentor to assist in the creation of the new course. For more information on this process, please contact Greg Miraglia or Cathy Gillis.
Please visit the Documents folder for other resources, studies, and information related to online education. If you have an idea for a good resource to include on this page, email Greg Miraglia or Cathy Gillis.
Transition To Blackboard Version 9.1
The transition of our Online Education Program to the latest version of Blackboard Learn has begun. Faculty now have access to the system and their courses to begin modifying them to work with the new software. On July 19, 2010, faculty will be surveyed about pilot testing their courses for the fall 2010 semester. All courses will be moved to Blackboard Learn starting with the spring 2011 semester.

About e-paks
There is some confusion about the differences between WebCT and Blackboard labeling and how it will effect e-pak requests. If you are preparing for a class to be taught using the existing WebCT system, look for the e-pak for WebCT 8.0.
If you are preparing a course on the new Blackboard system, look for an e-pak for Blackboard Learn Version 9.1 (or 9.0).
