Library & Learning Resource Center
The existing college Library is approximately 1/3 the size is should be to support our student body according to State standards. In recognition of our need, the State has put forth a 50/50 match to college dollars for construction of a new Library & Learning Resource Center on campus. Measure N funds were leveraged for the 50/50 match with State monies for the construction.
Bids were opened May 6, 2008 for the new building that will be approximately 62,000 sq ft and hold 80,000 volumes. The library will go high tech in its support of students with over 150 computer stations, a wireless net work, the latest media resources, and a small copy center. Quiet reading rooms and various configurations of study space are also included. Several student support programs will also move to the new facility, including the Testing & Tutoring Center, Learning Services, and Teacher & Learning Center. Once completed, the new Library will be open and available to the community at large.
Instructional Center for the Performing Arts
The college Performing Arts educational programs are popular with students and the general public alike. Historically the programs have reported a wide array of student success stories and student performance offerings in music and drama are well attended. To replace the existing aged facility, site preparation has begun on a new facility for education in performing arts – Drama & Music. Bids were opened on the second phase, construction of the facility itself, in February 2008. The new Performing Arts Center will include practice rooms and full theatrical amenities for singers, musicians and thespians alike. The main house will seat up to 500 patrons to attend student performances. Additionally, a studio theater will greatly enhance teaching opportunities for the dramatic arts and small performances.
