Belle & Barney Rhodes left two legacies at Napa Valley College. Belle donated her very large cookbook collection (4,000) to the Upper Valley Campus culinary library and established an endowed scholarship for culinary students.
Belle and her husband Barney were instrumental in the establishment of the Napa Valley Cooking School. In recognition of her support, the kitchen was named the Belle Rhodes Teaching Kitchen at the "Bellismo" gala in 1996. The event raised $70,000 for the culinary program, the largest amount ever used for a single college endeavor at that time.
At Barney's death, the Belle and Barney Rhodes Trust provided endowed funds that will provide ongoing support to the cooking program at Napa Valley College. This is the largest bequest ever received by the Napa Valley College Foundation. Napa Valley College was one of many charities to benefit from Belle and Barney Rhodes's philanthropy during their many years living in Napa Valley.
